Every year the Alaska chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts invites a local designer to craft a theme and promotional materials for their annual design awards competition, “The Big One.” For 2019 I designed a theme inspired by the idea of collecting and studying beautiful things: an activity adjacent to both science and art. Moths and butterflies, pinned as specimens, became a metaphor for both the practice and product of design.
